      The environment of the Erasmus University of Applied Sciences at the Nijverheidskaai is in full transition. From a production district, in fact, the area has quickly turned into a mixed and lively neighbourhood in which the building complex itself has however failed to integrate by maintaining a rather defensive and autonomous character.The addition of a film studio and a theatre to this complex is a great opportunity to revise both the relationship with the neighbourhood and the organization of the school itself. We envision a grid plan in which built parts are interspersed with open spaces.Within this master plan, it is therefore logical to propose a compact building to be installed separately behind the existing entrance one. All major functions are stacked one above the other to a height of almost forty meters; on the ground floor there is a film studio, above it three floors of smaller studios and at the top, with a view of Brussels, the theatre.The building has the ambition to be manifestly present in the neighbourhood and within the campus through its scale and its clear architectural identity, specifically through the strong contrast between open and closed parts dictated by the moving goods lift within a translucent volume. Complementing the neighbourhood, but also out of economic necessity, the whole is made up of materials pertaining to industrial constructions.A limited part of the existing school will finally be renovated to house three studios.
